Transverse (horizontal) Plane
lies at right angles (perpendicular) to the long axis of the body
divides the body into superior and inferior portions
these "cuts" are referred to as transverse (cross) sections
Sagittal (median) Plane
a section parallel to the long axis of the body
divides the body into right and left portions
Midsagittal plane extends directly through the midline
Parasagittal plane extends parallel the midline
