Actions:
- 1. Suppresses ventricular dysrhythmias by decreasing ventricular irritability
- 2. Raises fibrillatory threshold
- 3. Lowers the threshold for defibrillation, and cardioversion

Indications:
- 1. Cardiac arrest with ventricular tachycardia, or ventricular fibrillation
- 2. Stable VT
- 3. Significant ventricular ectopy

Contraindications:
- 1. Hypersensitivity
- 2. 2nd, and 3rd degree heart blocks
- 3. PVC’s associated with bradycardia
- 4. Idioventricular rhythm
- 5. Junctional bradycardia

Early Side effects:
- Anxiety
- Euphoria
- Combative
- Nausea
- Twitching
- Numbness

Late Side Effects:
- Seizure
- decreased BP
- Coma
- Widening QRS
- Prolonged 3rd PRI
- VFIB

Administration:
- 1. Cardiac arrest with VF/VT
- Adults: Initial dose 1-1.5 mg/kg IV/IO
- For refractory VF may give additional 0.5 – 0.75 IV pus, repeat in 5-10 min. Max 3 mg/kg
- ET administration: 2-4 mg/kg
- 2. Stable VT/Significant ventricular ectopy
- Adults: 0.5 – 0.75 mg/kg.
- Repeat every 5-10 min to max of 3 mg/kg.
- 4. Maintenance Infusion 1 – 4 mg/min
