    Albuterol is a synthetic sympathomimetic that is selective for beta 2 adrenergic receptors.
  4. Actions
    • 1. Activates the beta-2 adrenergic receptors to relax bronchial smooth muscles.
    • 2. Bronchodilation, relieves bronchospasms, and reduces airway resistance
  5. Indications
    • Albuterol is indicated for the treatment of bronchospasms associated with:
    • 1. Asthma
    • 2. COPD
    • 3. Allergic reactions
    • 4. Toxic inhalation
  6. Contraindications
    Hypersensitivity
  7. Side Effects
    • 1. Tachycardia
    • 2. Hypertension
    • 3. Dizziness
    • 4. Tremors
    • 5. Headache
    • 6. Arrhythmias
  8. Administration
    Adult dose Nebulizer: 2.5 mg albuterol in 2-3mL of NS Metered-dose inhaler: 90 micrograms

    • Pediatric dose Nebulizer:0.15mg/kg in 2-3mL of
    • NS May repeat as needed
  9. Onset:
    5-15 minutes
