What are acute respinses of the muscular system?
Increased motor unit and muscle fibre recruitment
Increased blood flow to the muscles
Increased muscle temperature
Increased enzyme activity
Incrased o2 supply and use
Depleted muscle energy stores
Explain increased motor unit and muscle fibre recruitment
More contraction= more motor units and more muscle fibres
Greater cintraction force= more motor units and more muscle fibres
Explain increased blood flow to muscles
Extra demand of o2 in the muscles
Vasodilation then redirects blood flow to working muscles
Explain increased muscle temp
Heat is a by product of ATP production for energy during exercise
Explain increase enzyme activity
Levels of enzymes are increased to account for the amounts of ATP needed by the muscles
Enzymes are involved in all chemical processes that produce energy
Explain increased o2 supply and use
Muscle cells extract more oxygen from blood flow to replinish ATP stores and remove waste products
Causes an increase in a-VO2
Explain depleted muscle energy stores
All major muscle energy sources are depleted during exercise for ATP resynthesis by the muslces
ATP, PC, glycogen, triglycerides
