Vacuole
The vacuole is a small cavity in the cytoplasm of a cell that acts as a storage container for food, nutrients, or wastes. Plant cells have a few large vacuoles and animal cells have many small vacuoles.
-
Cell Wall
Plant cells have rigid walls around them. These walls help give plants their shape. Cell walls can be found in plants and certain algae, bacteria, and fungi. Cell walls are NOT found in animal cells.
-
Chloroplast
The chloroplast is where the plant makes food. It contains a green material called chlorophyll. Chloroplast is not found in animal cells.
-
Nucleus
The nucleus is the control center of the cell. The nucleus controls the cell's matabolism, growth, and reproduction.
-
Chromosomes
Chromosomes are like tiny blueprints for that particular plant or animal. They contain the hereditary information necessary for cell life.
-
Mitochondria
The mitochondria are the power sources of a cell. They break down food to release energy.
-
Cell Membrane
The cell membrane acts like a skin that holds the cell together. It is the outer layer of an animal cell and is inside the cell wall in plant cells.
-
Cytoplasm
Cytoplasm is a jellylike material that fills the cell. The other parts of the cell float in the cytoplasm.
-
What parts do plant and animals cells have in common?
- 1. Vacuole
- 2. Nucleus
- 3. Chromosomes
- 4. Mitochondria
- 5. Cell Membrane
- 6. Cytoplasm
-
Cell
The basic unit that makes up all living things. A cell is the smallest structural unit of an organism that is capable of independent functioning.
-
What do you need to use so you can see cells?
Cells are so small that you can see them only with a microscope.
-
What do cells do?
They carry out life processes.
-
What are the differences between plant cells and animal cells?
- Cell Wall
- Plant cells have a rigid cell wall that helps give them their shape, animal cells do not have a cell wall.
- Chloroplast
- Plant cells also have chloroplast, where the plant makes it's food. Animals do not make their own food, so they do not have this cell part.
- VacuolePlant cells have a few large vacuoles and animal cells have many small vacuoles.
- ShapePlant and animal cells are shaped differently.
-
What are the five life processes that all organisms must do?
- G.U.R.R.G.
- Grow and Develop
- Use and Release Energy
- Respond to Environment
- Reproduce
- Get Rid of Waste
-
What do you call a living thing that does the 5 life processes?
organism
