MOA
- 1) This short acting benzo intensifies activity of GABA
- 2) Has CNS depressant, anticonvulsant and anterograde amnestic properties
- 3) Relaxes skeletal muscles and induces sleep

Indications
- Seizures (status epilepticus)
- Induce sedation prior to painful procedures

Contraindications
Hypersensitivity to benzos, acute narrow-angle glaucoma, coma, shock, acute alcohol intoxication

Precautions
Use with caution in patients with COPD, CHF and/or renal failure

Side Effects
- 1) N/V, PVCs, hypotention
- 2) Blurred vision, retrograde amnesia
- 3) Excessive amnesia, apnea

Interactions
- 1) Prolonged resp depression when given with other CNS depressants such as alcohol
- 2) cimeidine (Tagament) increases plasma levels of midazolam

Dose/Route
Adult: 1.0-2.5mg slow IVP or IM q 5 mins, until seizure stops
- Pedi: 0.1 mg/kg slow IVP or IM max single dose 6 mg.
- May repeat once after 5 mins

- Onset = 3-5 mins IV
- Duration = less than 2 hours
- Half-Life = 1-4 hours
