Causes misreading of the genetic code. Interferes with initiation
Streptomycin
In Prokaryotes
Inhibits binding of aminoacyl-tRNA to A-site
Tetracycline
In Prokaryotes
Inhibits peptidyl transferase activity on ribosomes
Choramphenicol
In Prokaryotes
Binds to the 50S subunit and inhibits translocation.
Erythromycin
In Prokaryotes
Resembles aminoacyl-tRNA and binds ot the A-site.
Causes premature release of the polypeptide chain.
Puromycin
In Eukaryotes and Prokaryotes
Inhibits peptidyl transferase activity of the 60S
Cyclohexamide
In Eukaryotes
Inhibits eEF-2 and prevents translocation.
Diptheria toxin.
In Eukaryotes
Inactivates 60S subunit of the ribosome.
Ricin
In Eukaryotes
Streptomycin
Causes misreading of the genetic code.
Interferes with initiation in Prokaryotes.
Tetracycline
Inhibits binding of aminoacyl-tRNA to A-site.
In Prokaryotes
Choramphenicol
Inhibits peptidyl transferase activity on ribosomes in Prokaryotes.
Erythromycin
Binds to the 50S subunit and inhibits translocation in Prokaryotes.
Puromycin
Resembles aminoacyl-tRNA and bines ot the A-ste.
Causes premature relase of polypeptide chains in Prokaryotes and Eukaryotes.
Cyclohexamide
Inhibits peptidyl tranferase activity of the 60S ribosome in Eukaryotes.
Diptheria toxin
Inhibits eEF-2 and prevents translocation in Eukaryotes.
Ricin
Inactivates 60S subunit of ribosome in Eukaryotes.
Norfofloxacin
Affects DNA gyrase in bacterial DNA replication.
Ziovudine
Affects reverse transcriptase. Used in AIDS patients.
AZT (3'-azido-3'-deoxythymidine)
Inhibits reverse transcriptase.
Alpha - amantinin
Affects trascription...RNA-PolII is EXTREMELY SENSITIVE to this drug.
Rifampicin
Inhibits RNA synthesis in Prokaryotes, by binding to the Beta subunit. Does NOT affect eukaryotic RNA synthesis.
Actinomycin-D
NOT specific for either prokaytoes or eukaryotes, so is not a good drug. Binds tightly to dsDNA and inhibits RNA synthesis.
