Visual examination of the colon using a flexible tube inserted through the rectum and beyond
Bronchoscopy
Visual examination of the bronchial passages through a flexible tube inserted into the airway
Bone Marrow Biopsy
Removal of a small amount of bone - usually from the hip bone (illiac crest) is used
Also called a Bone Marrow Aspiration
Needle Biopsy
Tissue is pierced with a hollow needle and fluid and/or cells are removed for examination
Incisional Biopsy
Only a small amount of tissue is removed for examination
Excisional Biopsy
Entire tissue to be examined is removed
Biopsy
Removal of a piece of tissue from the body for subsequent examination under a mircroscope
Auscultation
Process of listening for sounds produced within the body
Aspiration
Withdraw of fluid by suction through a needle or tube
Amniocentesis
Surgical puncture to remove fluid from the amnionic sac
