List five major functions of the cardiovascular system.
1) transport oxygen
2) remove carbon dioxide
3) transport chemical mediators
4) thermoregulation
5) transport leukocytes
Name the structural components of the human heart
Major structures of the heart are the superior and inferior vena cava, the left and right atriums, left and right ventricles, and pulmonary arteries, veins, and capillaries, and the aorta.
the flow of blood through the various chambers, valves, and major blood vessels attached to the heart
The superior and inferior vena cava carry oxygen poor blood from veins to the right atrium, the right atrium moves blood through the tricuspid valve to the right ventricle. Then the right ventricle contracts and pumps blood through the pulmonary semilunar valve and into the pulmonary trunk. The pulmonary trunk moves oxygen poor blood into the pulmonary arteries which go into the lungs. Pulmnonary capillaries located in the lungs conduct a gas exchange, allowing oxygen to enter the blood while carbon dioxide leaves it. Pulmonary veins take the now oxygen rich blood to the left atrium. The left atrium pumps blood to the bicuspid valve to the left ventricle. The left ventricle sens blood into the aorta.
name the system that recovers fluid that escapes from the capillaries
Lymphatic System.
What are the major components of the lymphatic system?
1) lymph vessel; 2) lymph nodes; 3) white blood cells; 4) bone marrow; 5) lymph organs including tonsils, spleen, and thymus.
