  1. Describe the chemical transformation that take splace withing the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex.
Pyruvate's C4 skeleton loses a C, becoming a C3 (hydroxyethyl) which eventually become Acetyl-CoA. The lose of the C is a irreversable step, except in plants and bacteria via the clyoxylate cycle.
  2. What rxn(s) occur in the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex?

  3. Describe the allosteric regulation of the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex.
There are two energy state that allosteric regulation occurs in, high and low.

In high energy NADH, ATP and acetyl-CoA inhibit the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex, preventing Acetyle-CoA, NADH and ATP formation in the cycle.

In low energy, pyruvate and ADP stimulate the pyruvate dehydrogenase complex.
