  1. Description
    Part of the benzodiazepines family; Used for the control of seizure activity; Schedule IV controlled drug
  2. Mechanism of Action
    CNS depressant with sedative, muscle relaxant, anticonvulsant and amnesiac effets; 3-4 times as potent as valium; Intensifies activity of gama-aminobenzoic acid (GABA) a major inhibitory neurotransmitter of the brain
  3. Indications
    For the control of seizure activity if Valium not available
  4. Contrainindications
    Patients with known hypersensitivity to drug; Acute narrow angle glaucoma; Patients in shock, or comatose
  5. Precautions
    Can cause respiratory depression, apena, cardiac disturbances; Do not adminiter in cases os acute alcohol intoxication; Decrease dosage by half for elderly (>70) or debilitated patients; Nursing mothers; Severe hypotension with rapid IV push
  6. Dosage and Administration
    • Adults-2-5 mg IV or IM
    • Pediatrics-0.1 mg/kg slow IVP
