What is the function of the nucleus?
It contains DNA which acts as a blueprint for the manufacture of proteins
What is the function of the Nucleolus?
Involved in the synthesis of RNA
What is the function of the Mitochondrion?
It is the site of production of energy-rich ATP by aerobic respiration
What is the function of the Chloroplast?
It contains the green pigment chlorophyll to trap light energy for the process of photosynthesis
What is the function of the Cell Wall?
It is made of cellulose and gives strength and support to plant cells. It is freely permeable ie allows substances to pass through it with ease
What is the function of the Rough Endoplasmic Reticulum?
It is involved in the transport of proteins for export from the cell
What is the function of the Ribosome?
It is the site of protein synthesis
What is the function of the Centrioles?
They are involved in the formation of spindle fibres during mitosis and meiosis
What is the function of the Vacuole?
It is a sac containing water and dissolved substances. It also contributes to cell turgor and sometimes contains pigments
What is the function of the Golgi apparatus?
It packages complex molecules for secretion of the cell
What is the function of the Golgi vesicle?
It is a small sac to enclose and transport complex molecules
What is the function of the Smooth Endoplasmic Reticulum?
They are involved in the synthesis and transport of lipids
What is the function of the Lysosome?
It contains digestive enzymes
