- 1) care to avoid nearby neurovascular structures
- 2) typically 1.5" needle
- 3) needle inserted through skin & subcutaneous tissue into middle of muscle
- 4) plunger pulled back to ensure blood vessel has not been entered
- 5) plunger is depressed & drug is deposited into muscle
