    • 1) med absorbed into blood essels & then into circ csy
    • 2) onset of action of meds 10-15 min
    • 3) absorption steady/predictable
    • 4) meds do not have to pass through liver before arriving @ site of action
  7. IM (process)
    • 1) care to avoid nearby neurovascular structures
    • 2) typically 1.5" needle
    • 3) needle inserted through skin & subcutaneous tissue into middle of muscle
    • 4) plunger pulled back to ensure blood vessel has not been entered
    • 5) plunger is depressed & drug is deposited into muscle
