402.02 RESPONSIBILITY
All JFRD vehicles shall be operated in compliance with
State of Florida driving statutes.

Who is responsible for ensuring that the operator complies with all laws and procedures governing emergency vehicle operations.

Operators shall report any condition that might temporarily or permanently impair their ability to safely operate a JFRD vehicle to the ?

402.04 APPARATUS INSPECTION
What shall engineers check daily on the vehicle?
They shall check the water level of booster tanks (by visual observation into the tank) along with all other fluid levels on the vehicle.

After checking appartus they shall complete and sign what?
They shall then complete and sign the Engineer's Daily Apparatus Report.

When shall firefighting and EMS equipment be check?
- All firefighting and EMS equipment
- shall be inspected daily.
- It must also be checked
- before leaving emergency scenes and upon return to quarters

Maintenance and general cleaning will also be performed
daily.

If the motor of any vehicle or equipment is started, it shall be allowed to run until the
temperature has reached the normal operating range prior to shutting it off.

When companies are assigned to spare units, who shall be responsible for the vehicle and its equipment?

If a spare unit is returned after normal work hours, the Company Officer shall notify the FRCC
of where the unit was left and if any repairs are needed.

The fuel supply of any vehicle shall be refilled immediately if the level falls
below 3/4 of total capacity

- vehicle is en-route to being operated at the scene of an emergency,
- in which case it shall be refilled as soon as practical.

- Rescue Units and Chiefs’ cars, being quicker and more maneuverable, may pass slower units when clear.
- Other vehicles shall not pass each other unless the lead vehicle is having mechanical difficulties.

When shall school zones be observed?
- Even while responding to alarms or transporting patients to medical facilities, School Zone restrictions will be observed.
- During the designated hours,
- operators shall not exceed the posted School Zone speed limit.

When a school bus displays its “STOP” sign, JFRD operators will bring their
vehicle to
a complete stop, regardless of response status

When the first-arriving unit reports “situation stable” or “nothing showing” etc., any additional units shall
continue emergency response with lights and sirens but shall not exceed the posted speed limit.

JFRD vehicles are authorized to exceed posted speed limits only
- under favorable conditions,
- and then only when
- 1. Responding to alarms.
- 2. Transporting a patient to a medical facility

Favorable conditions are defined as follows:
- • Light Traffic
- • Dry Pavement
- • Good Visibility
- • Good Roads

Under favorable conditions what is the max. speed limit you can go over posted speed limit?
a maximum of 20 mph over the posted speed limit is authorized.

Under less than favorable conditions, whats the speed you can go?
posted speed limit is the absolute maximum permissible

If it becomes necessary to travel in center or oncoming traffic lanes, the
maximum permissible speed
shall be 20 mph.

What presents the greatest potential danger to emergency vehicles?
Intersections

When approaching and crossing intersections with the right-of-way (green light, no stop sign, etc.), JFRD vehicles shall not
exceed the posted speed limit

If it becomes necessary to use center or oncoming traffic lanes to approach controlled intersections (traffic light or stop sign), JFRD vehicles must ?
This includes occasions when the vehicle has green traffic lights
come to a complete stop before proceeding through the intersection.

When approaching a negative right-of-way intersection (red light, stop sign, etc.), the vehicle shall
come to a complete stop; and may only proceed through when the operator can account for all traffic in intersecting and oncoming lanes yielding the right-of-way

The unique hazards of driving on or adjacent to the fireground or incident scene
require the operator to use extreme caution

402.12 FIREGROUND/INCIDENT SCENE
Operators must consider the dangers their moving vehicle poses to
on-scene personnel and bystanders

No apparatus shall be positioned in a manner that may prohibit or interfere with the
removal of equipment from an apparatus.

Apparatus shall be parked to
- protect the safety of personnel,
- and in a manner that will not impede traffic any more than necessary
-
when working in and around roadways what shall be worn? What is the only expection?

- All personnel shall wear reflective vests
- The only exception will be personnel wearing their issued turnout coat
