Operations (DANG!)

Responsible to the CO for the collection, process, evaluation, and dissemination of combat and operational information required for assigned missions and tasks of the ship.

Responsible to the Operations officer for the following duties: Training the CIC team, Operating and maintaining the CIC, the CO's tactical plot, radar room, and electronic warfare room. Maintaining plotting and display equipment in the flag plot on a flagship.

Responsible to the CO, for readiness and employment of all visual and electronic exterior communications equipment and proper function of all associated internal systems and procedures. Be familiar with OPLANs and OPORDs particularly those relating to communications. Comm plan design for the ship.

To provide the organized collection, process, display, evaluation and rapid dissemination of pertinent tactical information and intelligence to command and control stations. Keeping the conn advised of the above.

To control and assist in special operations as delegated by proper authority. Navigation, Man overboard, Defense against swimmers, etc.

Power Projection/Sea Control. Carry, launch, retrieve and handle combat aircraft quickly and effectively. It is a long range offensive weapon and is the center of the modern naval task force or task group.

AAW. Equipped with missile launchers to defend against hostile air and surface attacks

ASW. Operate offensively and defensively against enemy submarines/surface ships and to defend against air attacks. They also provide gunfire support for amphibious assaults.

AAW/ASW. Carry and launch Anti-Air and Anti-Surface missiles.

ASW. Anti-Submarine Warfare and the protection of amphibious forces, underway replenishment groups and merchant ship convoys.

Logistic Support. Auxiliary ship that carriers Navy fuel oil, gasoline, and other petroluem products, and can deliver these cargos to ships at sea during underway replenishment at sea.

Ammunition/Logistic Support. Deliver ammo and missiles to the fleet at sea.

Logistics Support. Multiple-product ship capable of delivering missiles, fuel, ammo, general cargo during replenishment at sea.

Command and Control. Command ship for an amphibious task force, landing force, and air support commanders during amphibious operations.

Ocean Going Tug. Equipped with towing machines, booms, and firefighting equipment, and can perform a variety of towing and hauling tasks.

Rescue/Salvage. Used to salvage stores, machinery, and other materials from sunken US ships or enemy ships.

Command and Control. Command ship for an amphibious task force, landing force, and air support during amphibious operations.

Amphibious Warfare. Able to embark, deploy and land a marine battalion landing team by helo, landing craft, amphibious, and combinations of these methods.

Amphibious Warfare. Same as LHA except with docking capabilities for three air cushioned vehicles (LCAC).

Amphibious Warfare. Designed to embark, transport, and land 1800 troops and their equipment by means of transport helos in conjunction with a beach assault.
