AMINOGLYCOSIDES
- * Mycin/ or cin
- * side effects: Ototoxicity, Nephotoxicity***
- (mice have ears and ears look like kidneys)
- *Nursing: 8th cranial nerve (hearing), renal funtion, take for 7-10days, encourage fluids 3000 per day.

CEPHALOSPORINS
- ***Cef / Ceph
- Side effects: bone marrow depression, superinfection, rash, and increases risk for bleeding
- Nursing: ***take with food***
- cross allergy with penicillins***
- avoid alcohol, obtain culture and sencitivity before first dose
- ***can give false positive protiutia and glucose in the urine***

FLUOROQUINOLONES
- ***Floxacin
- can be use for inhalation of anthrax
- Side effects: decreases WBCs and hematocrit
- Increases live emzymes and alkaline phosphatase
- Nursing: encourage fluids, C&S before staring, and take 1h ac (before) / or 2 h pc (after) meals.
- ***antacids/ Iron prep interfere with action***
- ***Ciprofloxacin can be give with provenicet (goat med) // help cipro act better***

MACROLIDE
- ***Thromycin
- Use: ance, before dental procedures if allergic to PNC
- Side effects: confusion, hepotoxicity, superinfection
- Nursing: take 1h ac or 2h pc / monitor liver
- ***take with full glass of water / not juice
- ***increases affectivenes of coumadin and thiatolin

PENICILLINS
- ***Cillin
- Uses: severe infections, lyme disease
- Side effects: stomatitis, allergic reactions, diarrhea, renal and hepatic changes.
- Nursing: check for hypersensitivity, give 1-2h ac or 2-3h pc
- ***Allergy Cephalosporins***
- ***liver and kidney function

SULFONAMIDES
- ***Sulf
- Uses: crohn's disease, UTIs
- Side effects: peripheral neuropathy***
- cystalliuria***
- photosensitivity***GI upset, and stomatitis
- Nursing: encourage fluids
- take with meals or food***
- Good mouth care***
- ***antacids interfere with this antibiotic.

TETRACYCLINES
- ***Cyclines
- Uses: acne, prophylaxis for opthalmia neonatorum (babies / newborn eyes)
- Side effects: discoluration of primary teeth if taking during pregnacy, glossitis, rash, phototoxic reactions
- Nursing: take 1h ac or 2-3h pc
- Do Not take with antacids, milk, iron (b/c lower the abssortion)
- ***Note expiration date (toxic= tetracycline)
- monitor renal function
- avoid sunlight***
