Calcium Chloride

• 1) increases myocardial contractile force
• 2) increases ventricular automaticity

Calcium Chloride (Des)

• 1) hyperkalemia
• 2) hypocalcemia
• 3) hypermagnesemia
• 4) calcium channel blocker toxicity

Calcium Chloride (Ind)

• 1) ventricular fibrillation
• 2) hypercalcemia
• 3) possible digitalis toxicity

Calcium Chloride (CI)

• 1) may precipitate toxicity in PTs taking digoxin
• 2) ensure the IV line is in a large vein & flushed before using & after delivery

Calcium Chloride (PC)

5-10cc of (10% solution / 1Gram-10cc)/10 min, as needed or 2-4mg/Kg. Ped: 20mg/kg IV (10% solution) repeat at 10 min, as needed

(Solu-Medrol)/Corticosteroid, Anti-inflammatory

Methylprednisolone

synthetic adrenal corticosteroid, effective as an anti-inflammatory & used in mgt of allergic reactions & in some cases of shock. sometimes used in treatment of spinal cord injury.

Methylprednisolone (Des)

• 1) spinal cord injury
• 2) asthma
• 3) severe anaphylaxis
• 4) COPD

Methylprednisolone (Ind)

no major CIs in the emergency setting.

Methylprednisolone (CI)

only a single dose should be given in the prehospital setting

Methylprednisolone (PC)

asthma/COPD/anaphylaxis: 125-250mg IV/IM. Ped: 1-2mg/kg/dose IV/IM. spinal cord injury: 30mg/kg IV over 15min, after 45min an infusion of 5.4 mg/kg/hr.
