  1. Conversion
    Emotional conflicts are trun into a physical symptom, which provide some sort of benefit (secondary gain). Ex The individual who wittness a mruder, then experiiences sudden blindness with no organic cause.
  2. Compensation
    An individual makes up for a "defciency" in one area by excelling in another
  3. Denial
    Reailty is denied; it does not exist
  4. Displacement
    Emotions are expressed towards someone or something other than the source of the emotion.
  5. Dissociation
    Separation and detachment of emotional significance and affect from an idea or situation.
  6. Identication
    indivivdual who incorporates a characteristic (thought or behavior) of another individual
  7. Introjection
    A quality or attribute of another is internalized and becomes part of the individual. Ex; the child who follows his parents instructions when the parents are not present
  8. Projection
    blaming personal shortcoming on someone esle. EX: the student who does poorly on an exam and blames it on the teacher material
  9. Rationalization
    A process of constructing plausible reason to explain and justify behavior
  10. Reaction Formation
    The consicous behavior is completely opposite to the unconscious process. EX: the person who is excessively polite to an indivivdual who is disliked.
  11. Regression
    Behavior, thoughts or feelings use at an earlier stage of development are exhibted. EX; 8yr old who reverts back to bed wetting and thumb stucking while hospitilzed.
  12. Repression
    the barring from coniscous thought of painful, disagreeable thoughts, experiences, and or impulses
  13. Sublimation
    Sexual or aggressive energy/impulses are discharged in a socially acceptable way. EX: teenager who engages in many competitive sports.
  14. Supperssion
    An intentional exclusion of painful thoughts, experiences, or impulses
  15. Affect
    refers to the external manifestaions of inner feeling or emotions; reflected by facial experssion
  16. Flat affect
    no emtional facial experssion
  17. Anxiety/mild
    increased in vital signs, able to think, motivtion is increased.
  18. Anxiety/moderate
    tension, alert, prone to arguing, headache, diarrhea, low back pain
  19. Anxiety/servere
    impending danger. feels fatigued, diffucult to understand
  20. Anxiety/Panic
    Reailty is distorted, extreme terror, harm to self and others
  21. Neurosis
    ineffective coping with stress that causes mild interpersonal disorganization.
  22. Psychosis
    out of touch with reailty. deterioration, imparied perception and judgment, hallucinations.

    Lithium(normal loading range 1 to 1.5mEq/L for mantience). Remind pt antidepressant take about 2 to 4 wks

    involuntary movements(lip smacking and tougue porturding). these are types of extrapyramidail symptoms.
  40. Tardive dyskinesia
    Is a extrapyramidial reaction that occurs when medication is reduced or stopped
  41. Antipsychotic(drug reaction)
    Neuroleptic maligant syndrome. is >temp, muscle rigidity, labile BP, confusion, cardiovascular collapse
