Renal impairmnet

Women should consider an IUD since the pills effectiveness is reduced with topimerate

fatigue, headache, diziness, depression, impaired concentratihg, weight gain

psychosis, taste disturbances

25–50 mg once daily at bedtime. may increase upto 100-200mg daily

Migraine prevention: 25-50mg once daily at bedtime

• Topiramate may make you feel drowsy or dizzy especially when you start treatment or the dose is increased; if affected, do not drive or
• operate machinery.

Avoid alcohol as it may worsen some of the side effects of topiramate.

Tell your doctor immediately if your eyesight changes or you have eye pain.

Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly unless your doctor tells you to.

Primary generalised epilepsy

simple and complex partial seizures

In bipolar if other treatment has failed

Severe hepatic impairment

nausea, vomiting, increased appetite, weight gain

menstrual irregularities, abnormal bleeding time

600 mg daily in 2 doses; increase every 3 days by 200 mg daily according to response. Max 2.5g daily

Migrain prevention: oral 200–400 mg twice daily.

Take with food to reduce stomach upset.

Swallow the enteric coated tablets whole; do not crush or chew them.

Valproate may make you feel drowsy; if affected, do not drive or operate machinery.

This medicine may also increase the effects of alcohol.

Your appetite may increase when taking this medicine and you may need to pay more attention to your diet to avoid weight gain.

Tell your doctor immediately if symptoms such as fever, rash, abdominal pain, vomiting, jaundice, bruising or bleeding develop.

Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly unless your doctor tells you to.

Epilepsy, including simple and complex partial seizures, and generalised tonic-clonic seizures

• History of bone marrow depression
• AV conduction abnomalaties

drowsiness, dizziness, blurred vision, diplopia, headache (all dose-related), rash, dry mouth, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, anorexia, diarrhoea, constipation,

100 mg twice daily; increase by 100–200 mg every 2 weeks according to response. up to 2 g daily

• Tell your doctor immediately if rash, sore throat, fever, mouth ulcers, bruising or bleeding occur.
• Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly unless your doctor tells you to.

Partial and generalised seizures

Treatment with valproate - increases lamotrigine concentration

allergy or rash with other antiepileptics - increases risk of rash

diplopia, blurred vision, dizziness, headache, nausea, vomiting, maculopapular rash

25 mg once daily for 2 weeks, then 50 mg once daily for 2 weeks, then increase by 50–100 mg daily every 1–2 weeks

• Tablets may be swallowed whole, chewed or dispersed in a small volume of water.
• This medicine may cause drowsiness, dizziness or blurred vision; if affected, do not drive or operate machinery.
• Lamotrigine may also increase the effects of alcohol.
• Tell your doctor immediately if you develop a rash, fever or swollen glands.
• Do not stop taking this medicine suddenly unless your doctor tells you to.
