    type of individual who tends to overgeneralize and think in bipolar terms and who is highly conventional, moralistic, and uncritical of higher authority
  3. cultural relativism
    Theory from anthropology that the differences in ppls are the result of historical, social, and geographic conditions and that all populations have complete and equally developed cutlures
  4. Cultural Revolution
    Mao Zedong's attempt to purify China of outside influences and build a Marxist-Chinese culture
  5. cultural sensitivity
    making no value judgements based on one's own cultural values about other cultures' practices or artifacts (ex: better or worse, right or wrong)
  6. ethnocentrism
    negatively judging aspects of another culture by the standards of one's own culture (tendency of to use our own way of doing things as a way to judge others)
  7. four modernizations
    Deng Xiaoping's economic programs in China in agriculture, industry, science, and technology
  8. Hong Kong
    British Crown Colony returned to China in 1997
  9. Macao
    Portuguese colony returned to China in 1999
  10. prejudice
    irrational suspicion or hatred of a particular group, race, religion, or sexual orientation
  11. profiling
    law enforcement practice of scrutinizing certain individuals based on characteristics thought to indicate the likelihood of criminal behavior
  12. stereotype
    judgment made about another solely on the basis of ethnic or other group membership
  13. Taiwan
    Republic of China located on the island of Formosa off the southeastern coast of China
  14. Tibet
    a country in South Asia north of the Himalayus under the suzerainty, or overlordship, of China
