Before doing a skill (providing care), what steps must you take?
- Wash hands
- gather supplies
- knock on the resident's door and ask to enter
- introduce yourself & identify resident (check resident ID band)
- explain to the resident what you are going to do and ask their permission
- provide privacy

After doing each skill (providing care), you must always:?
- resident is comfortable
- correct body alignment
- return be to it's lowest point
- raise side rails, if they have
- place their call light in reach
- open curtains
- tell them your leaving
- wash hands
- report and record

BLOOD PRESSURE
- Do not take B/P on arm with cast or an IV
- Do not take B/P on arm immediately following venipunture
- Never take B/P on side of a mastectomy

ORAL TEMPERATURE
DON'T take and oral temperature...
- if a resident is ON oxygen
- HAS had recent mouth surgery or has mouth disease
- HAS an NG tube in nares
- IS unconscious or IS confused
- HAS facial paralysis
- HAS problem breathing

Before taking an oral temperature you must wait 15 minutes if resident has been drinking or smoking

Normal temperatures
- 97.6* A (A= under the arm)
- 98.6* F O (O= oral)
- 99.6* R (R= rectal)

Recording Redial Pulse
Rate (beats/min), Quality (weak or strong), Rhythm (regular or irregular)
example:
- P 72, stong, regular
- P 60, weak, irregular
- normal range
adult: 60-84 - 6 yr old= between 70-110
- infant pulse rate is higher

Recording Respiratory Rate
- LOOK- one movement up and down =1 respiration
- LISTEN- quiet? noise? describe sound. difficulty breathing?

Correct Body Mechanic
- Keep feet 12 inches apart with one foot slightly in front of the other
- keep person or object close to you. DO NOT lean over and lift
- your upper body should be kept erect
- DO NOT jerk when you lift, lift smoothly
- DO NOT twist when you lift, PIVOT your body
- BEND with your knees and NOT your back
