Class
Calcium Channel Blocker
-
Description
Clacium channel blocker that causes relaxation of vascular smooth muscle and slows conduction through the AV node.
-
Mechanism of Action
Slows conduction through the AV node, inhibits reentry during PSVT, decreases rate of ventricular response and decreases myocardial oxygen demand.
-
Onset of Action
- Onset: 5min
- Preak: 5-10min
- Duration: 10-60min
- Half-life: 2-8hrs
-
Indications
Used in PSVT refractory to adenosine
-
Contraindications
Heart Block, conduction system disturbance
-
Precautions
Should not be used in pt receiving IV beta blockers, hypotension
-
Side Effects
Dizziness, Hypotension, Nausea, Vomiting
-
Adult Dose
initial dose of 2.5-5mg if PSVT is not converted in 15-30min a 2nd dose of 5-10mg may be administered.
