  1. What is Matter
Is anything that has mass and occupies space
  2. Define Element
Is a type of matter that cannont be broken down into two or more pure substances. There are 115 known elements and 91 occure naturally.
  3. Define Compounds
Is a pure substance that contains more than one element. Water is a compound of hydrogren and oxygen. Compounds have fixed compositions. means it contains the same elements in the same percentages by mass.
  4. Define Mixtures
Contains two or more substances combined in such a way that each substances retains its chemical identity
  5. Name the two types of mixtures
    Homogenous / Heterogenous mixtures
  6. Define Homogenous mixture
Also known as a uniform mixtures are ones in which the composition is the same throughout. Another name is Solution. which is made up of a solvent; usually a liquid, but can be liquids, gases or solids ex soda water is a mixture of carbon dioxide (solute) and water (solvent)
  7. Define Heterogenous
a non-uniform mixture are those in which the composition varies throughout. Most rocks fall under this category.
  8. Metric prefixes what are they
    • Mega ( 10^6+ ) Kilo ( 10^3 ) [ GRAM ] Deci (10^-1) Centi ( 10^-2 ) Mili ( 10^-3 ) Micro ( 10^-6 ) Nano ( 10^-9) Pico ( 10^-12 )
    • ------------------------------ [ LITER ]
    • -------------------------------[ METER ]
  9. What is the formulat to convert Celcius to Fahrenheit, Kelvin
    Celsius = 1.8(degree celsius) + 32

    Fahrenheit to celsius = (degree celsius) - 32 / 1.8

    Celsius to kelvin = degree celsius + 273.15 = kelvin / degree of kelvin - 273.15 = Celsius
  10. How do you calculate avg speed
    • speed = distance traveled /
    • -------- time elasped
  11. Significant figures when dividing and multiplying
The smallest of the significant figures is the one you use.
  12. Whats the symbol for Gold, Magnesium, Silver and Lead?
    • gold = Au
    • silver = Ag
    • magnesium = Mg
    • Lead = Pb
  13. Names for symbols Cr, Ca, Fe, Zn
    • Cr = Chromium
    • Ca = Calcium
    • Fe = Iron
    • Zn = Zinc
