CAD meds

  1. control ventricular dysrhythmias
    IV amiodarone (cordarone)
  2. relieves pain by decreasing O2 demand and increasing O2 supply
    IV nitroglycerin
  3. helps prevent ventricular remoldeling
    ACE inhibitors
  4. relieves anxiety and cardiac workload
    IV morphine
  5. associated with decreased reinfarction and increased survival
    beta-adrenergic blockers
  6. minimizes bradycardia from vagal stimulation
    stool softeners
  7. decrease preload
    nitrates
  8. dilate coronary arteries
    nitrates and CCB
  9. prevent thrombosis if plaques
    antiplatelets & asprin
  10. decrease heart rates
    beta-blockers
  11. decrease afterload
    • nitrates
    • CCB
    • beta-blockers
  12. decrease myocardial contractility
    • beta-blockers
    • calcium channel blockers
  13. what type of drug is procardia (nifedipine)
    • CCB that decreases O2 demand by reducing systemic vascular resistence (SVR) and decreases contractility and HR.
    • increases O2 suppply by dilating coronary arteries.
  14. Spironalactone (Aldactone)
    • Potassium sparing diuretic
    • Blocks action of aldosterone, decreasing intravascular volume by sodium excretion, but retains potassium
  15. IV nitroglycerin
    • antianginals
    • Primarily reduces preload and increases myocardial oxygen supply
  16. digoxin (Lanoxin)
    • Antiarrhythmic
    • Increases cardiac contractility and output slows heart rate
  17. Furosemide (Lasix)
    • Loop diuretic
    • Primary effect is due to decreased intravascular fluid volume, thus decreasing preload and improving less intricate function
  18. IV Nitroprusside (Nipide)
    • Antihypertensive and vasodilator
    • Potent vasodilator that decreases both preload and after load, increasing cardiac contractility and output
  19. Enalapril (Vasotec)
    • Antihypertensive, Ace inhibitor
    • Decreases after load by vasodilating and preventing sodium and water retention
    • reducing levels of angiotensin II an aldosterone
  20. Dopamine (Intropin)
    • vasopressor and Andrenergics
    • Increases cardiac contractility but may increase ventricular irritability
  21. Milrinone (primacor)
    • inotropic
    • Improves cardiac contractions, decreases preload & after load, and increases cardiac output
  22. IV morphine
    • opioid agonist
    • dilates arterial and venous blood vessels in addition to relieving anxiety
  23. Carvedilol (Coreg)
    • antihypertensive and beta blocker
    • directly blocks sympathetic nervous system's negative effects on the failing heart
  24. Nesiritide (Natrecor)
    • vasodilator & human B-natriuretic peptide
    • recombinant form of a natriuretic peptide that decreases preload and after load
  25. metroprolol ( lopressor)
    • beta blocker
    • block sympathetic response to failure and decrease HR
