Mechanic Definitions

  1. Speed
    Speed is a measure of how far an object moves in unit time.
  2. Acceleration
    The rate at which an object gains/loses velocity.
  3. Force
    A force is a push, pull or a twist. Its symbol is F and is measured in Newtons (N).
  4. Mass
    Mass is the amount of matter in an object and is measured in kilograms. Mass is not a force.
  5. Weight
    Weight is a force and is caused by the pull of gravity acting on a mass. Like other forces, weight is measured in Newtons.
  6. Pressure
    Pressure is a measure of how spread out a force is, and is measured in N/m2.
  7. Work
    The amount of energy transformed. It is found by multiplying its force by the distance it has travelled in the forces direction.
  8. Power
    The amount of energy an object uses in unit time.
