Action: Kills bacteria (bactericidal) and inhibits bacterial growth (baceriostatic)

Use: bacterial infections

Classification: antihistamine

Action: inhibits histamine release and eosinophil activity during inflammation which decreases swelling and inflammatory response

Use: allergies

Classification: non-narcotic analgesic

Action: blocks periphal pain impulses

Use: pain, fever

Classification: Aceinhibitor, antihypertensive

Action: blocks the action of the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) which promotes vasodilation and decreases blood pressure.

Use: hypertension

Classification: anticoagulant

Action: interferes with synthesis of vitamin K slowing the process of blood clotting

Uses: thromboembolism and prevention of blood clots

Classification: thiazide diuretic

Action: inhibits reabsorption of sodium and chloride in the kidney which increase excretion of sodim, chloride, and water.

Use: Edema

Classification: loop diuretic

Action: inhibits the reabsorption of sodium and chloride from the ascending loop of Henle

Use: edema

Classification: bronchodilator (salmeterol) and steroid (fluticasone)

Action: salmeterol relaxes bronchial smooth muscle producing bronchodilation, fluticasone reduces inflammation.

Uses: asthma

Classification: antidepressant

Action: inhibits CNS reuptake of serotonin

Use: depression

Classification: proton pump inhibitor

Action: suppresses gastric acid secretion

Use: GERD, esophagitis
