    • -Lower hepatic fxn
    • -Hair loss
  6. Propylthiouracil (PTU)
    Indicated for hyperthyroidism

    • MOA:
    • -Inhibits thioperoxidase enzyme thus decreasing thyroid hormone synthesis

    • ADR:
    • -Agranulocytosis (most concerning)
    • -Rash
    • -Joint aches
    • -Lower hepatic fxn
    • -Hair loss
  7. Thiocyanate
    Indicated for hyperthyroidism

    Inhibit sodium iodide symport

    • Causes aplastic anemia
    • (can be fatal)
  8. Percholorate
    Indicated for hyperthyroidism

    • Inhibits sodium iodide symport
    • Inhibits organification of iodide

    • Causes aplastic anemia
    • (Can be fatal)
  9. Iodide
    • Used as a paradoxical effect:
    • -For hyperthyroidism

    Reduces the thyroid gland fxn

    • ADR:
    • -Iodism: too much iodide
    • -Alterations in taste
    • -salivation
    • -Productive cough

    • Used as expectorant
