  1. Contractibility
    • -Causes shortening of muscle fibres
    • -‘All or none’ principle involves all fibres supplied by a nueron firing
    • -isometric = without changing length
    • -isotonic = tension remains the same while shortening & lengthening
    • -concentric = shortening
    • -eccentric = lengthening
  2. Electrical Excitability
    responds to electrical stimulation arising from the alpha motor neuron
  3. Extensibility
    Can stretch up to a limit without damage e.g. stomach stretches for large meal
  4. Elasticity
    ability to stretch & return to normal shape
