    • Greet and state name
    • Verify Patient (arm band to order form)
    • On any medication
    • Nothing in mouth
  5. Patient Preparation after Verification
    • Position / Prepare arm
    • Support arm
    • Verbal informed consent
    • Verify any pretests
  6. Assemble Equipment
    • Wash hands
    • glove
    • prepare needle
  7. Venipuncture
    • Apply tourniquet
    • Select site
    • Palpate
    • Remove tourniquet
    • Clean site (allow dry 30-60sec)
    • Reapply tourniquet
    • Examine needle for damage
    • Perform puncture 15-30 degrees
    • Fill first tube
    • Remove tourniquet
    • Change tubes as needed
    • Remove last tube
    • Verify tourniquet removed
    • Withraw needle
    • Dispose of needle immediately
    • Gauze
    • Apply pressure
    • Label tubes at bedside
    • Attend to patient (bandage)
    • Deliver to lab

    • No flow in extremities
