    • Minimal positive inotrope and chronotrope
    • Decreases GI motility and secretions
  4. Glucagon

    Indications

    • May be used as inotropic agent in beta-blocker overdose
  5. Glucagon

    Contraindications

  8. Glucagon

    How Supplied
    • 1 mg ampules
    • (requires reconstitution with diluent provided)
  9. Glucagon

    Dosage and Administration

    • (not to exceed 1 mg) q 20 min. IM, IO, SC, Slow IV
  11. Glucagon

    Duration of Action
    • Onset: I minute
    • Peak effect: 30 minutes
    • Duration: Variable (generally 9-17 minutes)
  12. Glucagon

    Special Considerations
    • Pregnancy safety: Category C
    • Ineffective if glycogen stores depleted
    • Should always be used in conjunction with 50% dextrose whenever possible
    • If patient does not respond to second dose glucagon, 50% dextrose must be administered
