Reading Part 2: Vocabulary

  1. When we come across a word we do not know the meaning of, we must look around the words for clues about the meaning.
    Example: Imagine a girl with blue hair. (The word imagine means to picture or think about something.)



    A) unfamiliar words
  2. Some words can have different meanings. We must use the words or content to determine which meaning of the word is being used.
    Example: bear means "a large furry animal" and "to carry"



    C) multiple-meaning words
  3. Two small words put together to make one word.
    Example: earthquake



    B) compound words
