Anticholinergic
Description:
Anticholinergic (parasympatholytic) bronchodilator that is chemically related to atropine
Parasympatholytic used in treatment of respiratory emergency
Mechanism of Action
Causes bronchodilation and dries respiratory tract secretions
Blocks acetylcholine receptors, thus inhibiting parasympathetic stimulation

: 1.5-2.0 hours
Indications
Bronchial Asthma
Reversible bronchospasm associated with chronic bronchitis and emphysema
Contraindications:
Acute treatment of bronchospasm
Hypersensitivity to drugs (Soy and Peanut Alleregies)
Precautions:
MUST monitor vital signs (Lung sounds and flow rate)
Elderly Patients
Cardiovascular disease and HTN
Side Effects
Anxiety
Dizziness
Headache
Nausea/vomiting
Nervousness
Palpitations
Rash
Adult Dose:
500 ug in a small volume nebulizer @ 6-10 lpm (Usually mixed with Albuterol 2.5mg) “Combivent Treatment”
