    • Duration: 30-60min up to 3hr after meal
    • Side effects: no major

    H2 Receptor Antagonist
    • Ex: Tagmet, Zantec, Pepcid
    • Works: decreases production of acid
    • Onset: 1-2 hrs
    • Duration: up to 12 hrs
    • Side effects: mild headache, N/V/D, constipation, drug interactions
  6. Heartburn Treatment:
    Proton Pump Inhibitors
    • Ex: Prilosec, Prevacid
    • Works: stops stomach from prod. acid
    • Onset: 3-4 hrs (max effect)
    • Duration: 24 hrs
    • Side effects: headache, N/V/D, dizzy, drowsy, constipation, V absorption of meds, metabolized by liver
