- * Are functional connections between bones

Structural classification of joints
- * Fibrous
- * Cartilage
- * Synovial
Fibrous Joints
- * Found between bones that are in very close contact with each other
- * Made of dense connective tissue
- * Found in the skull
- * Known as suture
- * Immovable joint: Synarthroses
Cartilaginous Joints
- * Made of hyaline or fibrocartilage
- * Absorbs shock and helps equalize pressure between adjacent bones
- * Found in between vertebra of the vertebral column
- * Slightly movable joint: Amphiarthroses
Synovial joint
- * Freely movable joints: Diathroses
- * More complex than fibrous or cartilaginous
- * The articular ends of the bones are covered in hyaline cartilage
- * Joints capsule is made of dense connective tissue to hold the bones together
- * Synovial membrane secretes synovial fluid
- * Synovial cavity contains the synovial fluid to lubricate the joint
Joint movements
- 1. Flexion, extension, & hyperextension
- 2. Adduction & abduction
- 3. Dorsiflexion & plantar flextion
- 4. Supination & pronation
- 5. Circumduct
- 6. Rotation
- 7. Inversion & eversion
