  1. Absolute
    Metaphysical perspective whose source of ultimate reality is external to self. Reality is constant, fixed, stable.
  2. Axiology
    Branch of philosophy which studies the nature of values
  3. Atheism
    The belief that no deity exists
  4. Agnostic
    The belief that knowledge of deity is impossible, can't be known
  5. Aesthetics
    Study of beauty and ugliness, art values and principle
  6. Asceticism
    The belief that physical self-torture or self-denial could discipline an individual to achieve spiritual competence
  7. Deduction
    The method of reasoning which involves drawing inferences from the general to the specific
  8. Determinism
    A belief that individual behavior and natural events are predetermined, hence, no one is able to choose
  9. Ethics
    The sub branch of axiology that deals with moral conduct
  10. Existentialism
    The "youngest" of the four schools of thought
  11. Empirical
    Knowledge that is confrmed by the senses, observable
  12. Epistemology
    The branch of philosophy which deals with the nature of and acquisition of knowledge
  13. Eclectic
    Not follow any one philosophy but selects beliefs from many schools of thought and creates own
  14. Humanism
    The belief that Man is the highest order of reality
  15. Hedonism
    The "ism" or belief that pleasure is the highest good
  16. Immaterialism
    The belief that something exists which is not material, e.g. spirit
  17. Intuition
    The kind of knowledge that a person finds originating from within, in a moment of insight
  18. Induction
    The method of reasoning which involves drawing inferences from the specific to the general
  19. Materialism
    The belief that the thing which exists is material, matter
  20. Metaphysics
    The branch of philosophy which considers theories about the nature of ultimate reality
  21. Monism
    In metaphysics, the theory that reality is quantitatively one single entity
  22. Objective
    Values that exist in their own right regardless of human preference
  23. Optimisim
    The belief that existence is good or life is worth living
  24. Philosophy
    The love or seeking of wisdom
  25. Pantheism
    God and the universe are one and the same thing
  26. Relativism
    Metaphysical perspective whose source of ultimate reality is ones self. Reality is changing, based on experience
  27. Revelation
    The kind of knowledge that comes from God
  28. Rational
    Knowledge gained by reasoning using only the mind
  29. Speculation
    The mode of philosophizing that concentrates on finding the whole, the comprehensive picture or meaning
