    Combines with excessive acids to form a weak volatile acid, Increases PH
  4. Onset of action
    • Onset: Immediate
    • Peak: <15 min
    • Duration: 1-2 hours
    • Half-life: N/A
  5. Indications
    • Late management of cardiac arrest (If at all Tricyclic antidepressant O/D), Unresponsive diabetic ketoacidosis, Renal Failure (Early Cardiac Arrest Pts),
    • Known hyperkalemia
  6. Contraindications
    Alkalotic states
  7. Precautions
    Correct dose is essential, Can deactivate catecholamines, can precipitate with calcium, delivers large sodium load
  8. Side effects
    Alkalosis
  9. Doses
    • Adult: 1 mEq/kg
    • Pedi: 1 mEq/kg
  10. Max dose
    One dose prehospital (1 mEq/kg)
