    • 1.niacin
    • 2.nicotinic acid (niacin)
    • 3.decrease VLDL synthesis, thus dicrease LDL and TG; may inhibit apolipoproteinA which increases HDL
    • 4. give aspirin 325 or ibuprofen 200mg 30min prior to dose to decrease itch and flush
    • 5.flush,hyperglycemia,hyperuricemia(gout)

    • 4.with or w/o food; decrease dose if pt has renal impairment
    • 5.dyspepsia,gallstones, myopathy(increased when used with statin)

    • 7.warfarin,cyclosporine,bile acids decrease fibrate abs; do not use if pt has severe renal or hepatic impairment
  6. Lovaza
    • 1.omega 3 fatty acids
    • 2.omega
    • 3.decrease heaptic TG synthesis
    • 4.with food;avoid if allergic to fish;assess effectivness at 2months(d/c if TG are not decreased adequatily)
    • 5.burp, indigestion, backache, taste sense alteration
    • 6.4g qd or 2g bid (DF 1g)
    • 7.possible prolong bleeding may occur with anticoagulants
  7. Zetia
    • 1.ezetimibe
    • 2.cholesterol inhibitors
    • 3.inhibits cholesterol absorption at small intestine brush border
    • 4.with or w/o food, may be taken with statins
    • 5.increase liver enzymes, GI distress
    • 6. QD (10mg)
    • 7.cyclosporine increased zetia; combo with resins may decrease abs; combo with fibric acid may lead to gallbladder disease
    • DC:mod to severe heaptic disease

    • 3.inhibit cholesterol abs. at small intestine brush border;inhibit HMG-CoA reductase
