-
TIMING
- Place tape along Numbered end Top to Bottom
- Date, Initials, Time at Top
- Dash off ml/hr (start at 150 or 225, one Dash every 150 or 225 stands for an hour)
- Calculate INFUSION TIME, write OUT time at Bottom
- EX: 3-8-11 RS 1000 (0: top) 1100 (225) 1200 (450) 1300 (675) 1400 (900) OUT 1424
-
INFUSION TIME
- Total Volume (ml on IV bag) / Rate (ml/hr the 150 or 225) = Number of Hours to drip fluid
- (take decimal value * 60 to get min)
- EX: 1000/225=4.4 0.4*60=24 4hr 24 min
-
DROPS PER MINUTE
- Drop Factor (gtts/ml listed on tubing bag) * Rate (ml/hr the 150 or 225) / 60 min/hr
- then take that number and divide by 4 to get drops in 15 seconds
- EX: 10*225/60 = 2250/60 = 37.5/4 = 9 drops in 15 seconds
-
PRIMING
- Bring IV solution and tubing bag to bedside
- Get out tubing, un-do tape, hold ends and let unwind
- Move Roller Clamp (blue with white roller) to Top of tubing then roller clamp it down (small end)
- Pull off sterile cover from IV bag and from Spike, Insert into IV bag
