    Corticosteroid, anti-inflammatory

    Mechanism of Action:
    A synthetic steroid that suppresses acute and chronicinflammation. In addition, it potentiates vascular smoothmuscle relaxation by beta-adrenergic agonists and mayalter airway hyperactivity

    Indications:
    Moderate to severe asthma/COPD, severe allergic reaction, croup
  4. DEXAMETHASONE (DECADRON)
    Onset:
    Within 1 hr if given I.V. or I.M.; 1-2 hr if given P.O.

    Contraindications:
    Known hypersensitivity to corticosteroids

    Anaphylaxis, allergic reaction, asthma, exacerbation of COPD

    Dosage:
    Asthma/COPD/Allergic reaction: 60-125 mg IV or IM.(Once reconstituted, the mixture is good for up to 48 hr.)

    Antiemetic

    Mechanism of Action:
    Selective inhibitor of type 3 serotonin (5-HT3) receptors

    Indications:
    Uncontrollable nausea and vomiting

    Contraindications:
    None known, use with caution in setting of bowel obstruction

    4 mg slow IV push or IM
