MED-Ondansetron

    Anti-emetic
  2. Mechanism of Action
    A serotonin receptor antagonist that prevents acute emesis by blocking serotonin receptors in the chemoreceptor triggering zone (CTZ) and afferent vagal neurons in the upper GI tract. It does not have prophylactic properties and therefore has no effect on delayed emesis. Does not cause extrapyramidal symptoms

  4. Contraindications
    Known hypersensitivity
  5. Precautions
    Use cautiously with other drugs that prolong the QT interval
  6. Side Effects
    Headache, diarrhea, dizziness, fever, drowsiness, prolonged QT
  7. Interactions
    May form precipitate with alkaline solutions
  8. Dosage and Route
    Adult: 4 mg slow IV/IM, may repeat once after 10 mins

    Pedi: 0.1 mg/kg (max single dose 4 mg)
