What does Jesus usually do when people are confused about his words or meanings?
HE EXPLAINS THE PARABLES TO AVOID CONFUSION

Peter says "Explain this parable to us" and Jesus does so (Mt 15:15)And the disciples asked "Why, then do the scribes say that Elijah must come first?" ...and Jesus explains it to them (Mt 17:10-19)
  3. Could it be the symbolic body and blood?
    NO

-Do Protestants believe that they get eternal life from symbolically eating bread and drinking grape juice? Certainly not.

-How can this be, as Peter said, a "hard saying" if Jesus is speaking symbolically?

-Is Symbolic bread and grape juice harder to believe than miracles they witnessed like the loaves and fish, or walking on wate

    GREATER THAN MANNA

Then Jesus said to them, "Very truly, I tell you, it was not Moses who gave you the bread from heaven, but it is my Father who gives you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is that which comes down from heaven and gives life to the world. (Manna-Exodus 16:4-36

  7. John 6: 52-53
    UNLESS YOU EAT THE FLESH

The Jews then disputed among themselves saying "How can this man give us his flesh to eat?" So Jesus said to them, "Very truly, I tell you, unless you EAT THE FLESH of the Son of Man and DRINK HIS BLOOD, you have no life within you."
  8. John 6: 54-56
    EAT MY FLESH

"Those who EAT MY FLESH and DRINK MY BLOOD have eternal life, and I will raise them up on the last day; for MY FLESH is TRUE FOOD and MY BLOOD is TRUE DRINK. Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood abide in me and I in them."
  9. John 6: 58
    MANNA FROM HEAVEN

"This is the bread that came down from heaven, not like that which your ancestors ate, and they died. But the one who eats this bread will live for ever."
  10. If it is symbolic...
Since Jesus said the bread he was talking about is His flesh, if you believe he is talking symbolically, then you must believe the flesh he was talking about was symbolic. If that were true, though...would he have literally died on the cross? Wouldn't his death, by that standard, be symbolic?
