    One that tells a story

    Poetry that involves the techniques of drama like a play with characters

    Highly musical verse that expresses the observations and feelings of a single speaker

    A word or phrase that appeals to one or more of the five senses

    Repetition of initial beginning consonant sounds

    Repetition in 2 or more words of end constants in stressed syllables
  17. Assonance
    Repetition of vowel sounds followed by different consents in 2 or more syllables.
  18. Internal Rhyme
    Rhyming words appear in the same line
  19. End Rhyme
    rhyming words come at the ends of lines
  20. Repetition
    Any element of language more then once
  21. Mood
    Feeling created in the reader by a literary work or passage
  22. Theme
    Central message or insight on to life revealed through literary work
  23. Allusion
    A reference to a well known person, place, event, book, or work of art

    Songlike poem that tells a story
  25. Blank verse
    Poerty written in unrhymed iambic pentameter lines
  26. Couplet
    Pair of rhyming lines
  27. Simile
    Figure of speech in which like or as is used by comparison
  28. Metaphor
    Figure of speech in which one thing is spoken as though it was something else.
  29. Extended Metaphor
    Subject is spoken or written of as though it were something else and a whole piece of writing.
  30. Haiku
    Threeline japanese verse form
  31. Limerick
    Humerous, rhyming, 5 line poem with specific meter and rhyme scheme
  32. Personification
    Type of figurative language in who a nonhuman subject is given human characteristics.
  33. Quatrain
    Stanza or poem made up of 4 lines
  34. Sensory Language
    Writing or speech that appeals to one or more of the senses
  35. Sonnet
    14 line lyric poem, usually written in rhymed iambic pentameter

    Listing in a poem
  37. Hyperbole
    Deliberate exaggeration
  38. Paraphrase
    Put something into your own words
  39. Symbol
    Anything that stands for or representing something else
