    Where elderly and young Jews died in massive gas chambers

    Dirt walls, several feet thick covered in shrubbery

    A kind of jellied gasoline

    Confrontation and competition between the U.S. and Soviet Union lasting from 1946-1990
  24. Iron Curtain
    Political and military barrier that isolated Soviet controlled countries of Eastern Europe after World War II

    Keeping communism within its present territory through the use of diplomats, economic, and military action

    A war fought to achieve a limited objective, such as containing communism

    A war fought to secretely weaken a society and overthrow its government

    A shelter built with the intent to house and protect people from nuclear fallout

    To threaten to use nuclear weapons if a Communist state tried to seize territory by force

    The willingness to go to the brink of war to force the other side to back down

    Nations with primarily agricultural economies
  36. Military Industrial Complex
    An informal relationship that some people believe exists between the military and the defence industry to promote greater military spending and influence government policy
  37. Closed Shops
    The practice of forcing business owners to hire only union members
  38. Right to Work Laws
    A law making it illegal to require employees to join a union
  39. Union Shops
    Shops in which new workers were required to join the union
  40. Featherbedding
    The practice of limiting work output in order to create more jobs
  41. Dynamic Conservatism
    Balancing economic conservatism with some activism
  42. White Collar
    Jobs in sales and management
  43. Blue Collar
    People who perform physical in labor in industry
  44. Multinational Corporations
    Large corporations with overseas investments
  45. Franchises
    When a person owns and runs one or several stores of a chain operation
  46. Baby Boom
    A marked rise in birthrate, occuring after WWII
  47. Generation Gap
    Cultural separation between children and their parents
  48. Poverty Line
    A figure set by the government to reflect the minimum income requirement to support a family
  49. Urban Renewal
    Tried to eliminate poverty by tearing down slums and erecting new high-rise buildings for poor residents
  50. Termination Policy
    When the federal government withdres all official recognition of the Native American groups as legal entities and made them subject to the same laws as whites
  51. Juvenile Delinquincy
    Antisocial or criminal behavior of young people
