-
Isonazid
- Interferes with DNA metabolism
- Side effects - Peripheral Nephritis, Hepatoxisity, optic neuritis.
VITAMIN B6 Prefents Neuritis.
-
Rifampin (Rifandin)
- Inhibits RNA Synthesis
- Side effects - Hepatitis, peripheral neuropathy, hypersensitivity, BODY FLUIDS TURN ORANGE
-
Pyrazinamide
- Bacteriocidal
- Orange - Red Body Fluids
- Hepatoxicity
- Rifapentine only given twice weekly
-
Small Cell Carcinoma
(Lung Cancer)
- Most agressive of all lung cancers
- Arise in major bronchi, spread by infiltration along bronchial wall.
- 20% of all cases
-
Non Small Carcinoma
Sqamous Cell Cancer -
- Centrally Located, Arise in segmented and sub segmental bronchi
- 30% of all cases
-
Adenocarcenoma
- Occurs Peripherally as mass or nodules and often metastasizes.
- 40% of all cases
-
Large Cell Carcinoma
Fast growing tumor that occurs peripherally.
-
Pneumonectomy
Removal of entire lung
-
Thorectomy
Surgial opening into thoracic cavity
-
Lobectomy
Surgical Removal of a lobe of lung
-
Bilobectomy
Removal of two lobes of lungs
-
Segmentectomy
- Segment of lung is removed
- (not recommened for curative resection of lung cancer)
-
Wedge Resection
Removal of a small pie shaped area.
-
LDL Level
- LDL Levels are:
- Less than 160 Normal
- Less than 100 Optimal
- Less than 70 for CAD patients
-
Nitrates
Used for Angina. Dilates peripheral blood vessels. Decreases O2 demand. and increases blood flow to heart.
-
-
"LOL" Blocks action of Nor-Adrenaline. Dilates arteries, slows heart rate, lowers BP, slows conduction of AV node.
Bradycardia, hypotension, wheezing, GI complaints, Pt could gain weight, depression, sexual dysfunction.
-
Caclium Channel Blockers
- Slows HR, decreases contration stregnth, relaxes blood vessels, decrease in myocardial O2 demand and systemic pressure.
- Can cause constipation.
-
Alpha-andrenergic receptor agonist
Dilates arterioles and veins. Lowers BP fast. Watch for orthostatic hypotension.
-
ACE inhibitors
Inhibits formation of angiotensen 2. Produces vasodilation and promotes secretion of water and salt. Stay in bed for 3-4 hours after taking med for first time. Elderly at risk the most with this med.
-
ARB's
Angiotensen 2 receptor blockers
- Prevents action of angiotensen 2, produces vasodilation, increased salt and water excretion.
- S/E - Decreased renal function, hypercalemia
-
Central Alpha Agonists
Acts on central nervous system. Lowers vascular resistance and BP.
-
Loop Diaretics
- Prevents salt reabsorption in ascending loop of henle. More potent than thiazides. Shorter duration.
- Risk for fluid imbalance. Suppliment with potassium rich foods.
-
Thiazide Diuretics
Inhibits salt and water retention on distal tubules.
-
Reductase Inhibitors
- Blocks Cholesterol Production in Liver.
- May cause muscle tenderness. - increase in liver enzymes - contraindicated in Liver disease
STATINS - Levastatin (Mevacor)
-
Bile Acid Resins
- Works in the intestines to lower LDL - Helps increase HDL's.
- May increase triglycerides, cause gastric distress, constipation, decrease absorption of other meds such as warfarin, thiazides, thyroid hormones beta-adrenergic blockers so doing give at same time as meds.
-
Fibrates (fibric acids) -
- Raises HDL's and lowers LDL's. Take with food, may cause gastric upset. Contraindicated in renal and hepatic diseases.
- Clofibrate (Atromid) Fenofibrate (Tricor) Gemfibrozid (Lopid)
-
Nicotinic Acid (niacin)
Works in Liver to decrase blood fats, triglycerides, LDL's, and increase HDL's. Can cause flushing, hyperglycemia, hyperuricemia, upper GI distress, hepatoxicity. Contraindicated in liver disease, sever gout, and peptic ulscer disease.
-
Hyperlipidemia or Cholesterol Absorption inhibitor.
Exetimbe (Zetia)
- Inhibits intestinal absorption of cholesterol, increases HDL, lowers LDL.
- Can cause headache and mild GI upset but side effects are rare. Cant take with liver disease and with statins.
-
Antiplatelet therapy
- Low dose asprin (81-325mg) is recommeded in people with CAD unless history of GI bleed.
- S/E include gastric upset and bleeding.
- People intolerant of aspirin can take plavix (clopidogrel)
