Types of Medication Orders

  1. Standing Order/Routine Medication Order
    Is carried out until the prescriber cancels it by another order or until a prescribed number of days elapse.
  2. prn Order
    The prescriber orders a medication to be given when a client requires it.
  3. Single Order
    A prescriber will often order a medication to be given only once at a specific time.
  4. STAT Orders
    Signifies that a single dose of a medication is to be given immediately and only once.
  5. Now Orders
    Is used when a client needs a medication quickly but not right away.
  6. Prescriptions
    Medications that will be taken outside the hospital setting. Includes more information than a regular order.
