Mitosis Vs. Meiosis

  1. What is Mitosis ???
Mitosis is cell division and has four phases. Because you have Ms.Charles, you might have to be a bit more elaborate.
  2. General Knowledge:

    Cell Cycle
The Cell grows & prepares for division, and divides to form daughter cells.

    Four phases in the cell:

    G1: Cell increases in size.

    • S: Chromosomes are replicated
    • G2: Preparation for the M phase (Mitosis)

*NOTE* Mitosis is a part of the cell cycle, and has its own FOUR phases.
  3. Four Phases in MITOSIS are ?
    Prophase

    Metaphase

    Anaphase

    Telephase
  4. Prophase

    Prophase:
Chromosomes become visible. Centrioles take up their positions on opposite sides of the nucleus.
  5. Metaphase

    Metaphase:
Chromosomes line up across the equator (center) of the cell.
  6. Anaphase
Anaphase: Centromeres that join the sister chromatids seperate and become individual chromosomes. The chromosomes continue to move apart until they have reached the poles of the cell.
  7. Telephase
Telephase: Nuclear envelope reforms around each cluster of chromosomes. Mitosis is complete, but cell division is not.
  8. VOCABULARY:

Cytokinesis is the (a)__________ of the (b)__________. Each part contains its own (c)__________ and cytoplasmic
    (d)__________.
    • (A) seperation
    • (B) cytoplasm
    • (C) nucleous
    • (D) organelles
