    • Rash (potentially serious Steven Johnsons syndrome)
    • May have reduction of Granulocytes (need to monitor the WBC levels)
  7. Carbamazepine Metabolism
    Induces its own metabolism (CYP3A4)

    • It reduces the levels of other drugs, such as:
    • -Oral contraceptives
    • -bupropion
    • -alprazolam
    • -nefazodone
    • -Tricyclics

    What is it indicated in?
    • Bipolar I disorder
    • (it is more effective in treating the depressive mood episodes than the manic)

    - It blocks dependent Na channels--> inhibits Glutamate release.
  9. What is the effects of Enzyme inducing AEDs such as carbamazepine and phenobarbital added to lamotrigine?

    What are the effects of valproate added to lamotrigine??
    They decrease LTG concentrations ny 40%

    Increases LTG concentrations 2X
  10. Lamotrigine adverse effects?
    • Serious rashes:
    • SJS
    • TEN (toxic epidermanl necrolysis)
    • N/V/D
