Progressives wanted to rid politics of corruption, tame the power of the "trusts" and inject more liberty into the american life.
Progressivism: How?
They first appeared in municipal politics, organizing movements to oust crooked mayors and break up local gas or streetcar monoplies. They carried their fights to state and eventually the nation.
