  1. atropine
    • muscarinic antagonist
    • bronchodilation
    • decreased motility of GI tract
    • raises HR
    • decreased salivation/sweating
  2. buspirone
    • 5-HT1A partial agonist
    • relaxation of proximal stomach, alleviates dyspepsia
    • SE: nausea, headache, dizziness
  3. cimetidine
    • histamine H2 receptor antagonist
    • treatment of GERD, hypersecretion of acid
    • inhibits many CYP450s
  4. erthyromycin
    • antibiotic, motilin agonist
    • treatment for respiratory/soft tissue infections, gastroparesis (pro-motility effect)
  5. fluoxetine
    • SSRI antidepressant
    • b/c it blocks reuptake of 5HT, has the SE of GI discomfort, nausea, headache, insomnia, anxiety, diarrhea
  6. metoclopramide
    • prokinetic drug
    • treats reflux esophagitis, induces gastric emptying, helps chemo-induced nausea
    • 5HT3 antagonist, 5HT4 agonist
    • increase ACh (indirectly) in gut
    • D2 receptor antagonist
    • SE: diarrhea, depression
  7. misoprostol
    • prostagladin E1 analog
    • prevention of gastric and duodenal ulcers secondary to NSAID use
    • mucosal protectant effect
    • SE: diarrhea, abd pain, dyspepsia
  8. neostigmine
    • AChE I carbamate-type
    • increases gastric motility, treats paralytic ileus, lack of bladder tone
    • SE: diarrhea, bowel cramps
  9. octreotide
    • somatostatin analog
    • treats diarrhea and abd illness, acromegaly, orthostatic hypotension
    • antidiarrheal, inhibits gastric acid and pepsin secretion
  10. Omeprazole
    • PPI (proton pump inhibitor)
    • treats GERD, doudenal ulcer, hypersecretory states (Zollinger-Ellison syndrome)
    • blocks production of acid by irrev. binding H+/K+ ATPase
  11. ondansetron
    • 5HT3 antagonist (granisetron same class)
    • treatment of nausea/vomiting after chemo
    • SE: constipation, headache
  12. rantidine
    • histamine H2 receptor antagonist
    • treats GERD, ulcers
    • more potent than cimetidine!!
    • SE: diarrhea, dizziness, rash - fewer SE than cimetidine
  13. sumatriptan
    • 5HT1B/1D/1P agonist
    • treats dyspepsia, migraine
    • fundal relaxation, reduce antral motility, vasoconstrictor
    • SE: flushing, dizziness, weakness, nausea, stiffness, tingling
  14. sucralfate
    • cytoprotectant, mucosal coating agent
    • treats ulcers, inhibits pepsin
    • SE: constipation
  15. antacids
    • Al(OH)2, CaCO3, etc.
    • neutralize acids
    • simethicone - antiflatulent agent
    • SE: constipation
  16. oxybutynin (Ditropan)
    • anticholinergic, antimuscarinic
    • bladder muscle relaxant
    • suppresses urge to void
    • SE: dry eyes, hyposalivation, decreased gastric motility, constipation
  17. tolterodine (detrol)
    • anticholinergic, antimuscarinic
    • same class as oxybutrin, bladder muscle relaxant
  18. amitriptyline (Elavil)
    • tricyclic antidepressant (TCA)
    • bladder relaxant
    • blocks reuptake of NE and 5HT @ nerve terminal
    • SE: anticholinergic effects
  19. alpha adrenergic antagonists
    • benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)
    • alfuzosin, doxazosin, tamsulosin, terazosin
    • relaxes smooth muscle of prostate and bladder neck
  20. vasodilators
    pulmonary arterial hypertension, male erectile dysfunction
  21. 5-alpha reductase inhibitors
    • treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)
    • SE: sexual dysfunction, gynecomastia
  22. colchicine
    • antiinflammatory durg for gout
    • binds to microtubules in neutrophils, prevents migration in response to uric crystal deposition
  23. allopurinol
    • antigout- xanthidine oxidase inhibitor
    • also acts as a muscarinic antagonist
  24. probenecid
    • uricosuric drug
    • treats hyperuricemia assoc. w/chronic gout
    • inhibits reabsorption at PCT
  25. sulfinpyrazone
    • uricosuric drug
    • treats chronic/intermittent gouty arthritis
    • inhibits reabsorption of uric acid
  26. disulfiram
    • management of ethanol abuse
    • negative-reinforcer
    • inhibits oxidation of acetaldehyde - increase adverse effects of acetaldehyde buildup
