The fifth commandment is, Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

The fifth commandment requireth the preserving the honour, and performing the duties, belonging to everyonein their several places and relations, as superiors, inferiors, or equals.

Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. Ephesians 5:21

The fifth commandment forbiddeth the neglecting of, or doing anything against, the honour and duty which belongeth to every one in their several places and relations.

Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. Romans 13:8

The reason annexed to the fifth commandment, is a promise of long life and prosperity (as far as it shall serve for God’ s glory and their own good) to all such as keep this commandment.

The sixth commandment is, Thou shalt not kill.

The sixth commandment requireth all lawful endeavors to preserve our own life, and the life of others.

For it was so, when Jezebel cut off the prophets of the LORD, that Obadiah took an hundred prophets, and hid them by fifty in a cave, and fed them with bread and water. 1 Kings 18:4

The sixth commandment forbiddeth the taking away of our own life, or the life of our neighbour unjustly, or whatsoever tendeth thereunto.

But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here. Acts 16:28

The seventh commandment is, Thou shalt not commit adultery.

The seventh commandment requireth the preservation of our own and our neighbour’ s chastity, in heart, speech, and behavior.

Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man. Colossians 4:6

The seventh commandment forbiddeth all unchaste thoughts, words, and actions.

The eighth commandment is, Thou shalt not steal.

The eighth commandment requireth the lawful procuring and furthering the wealth and outward estate of ourselves and others.

For it was little which thou hadst before I came, and it is now increased unto a multitude; and the LORD hath blessed thee since my coming: and now when shall I provide for mine own house also? Genesis 30:30

The eighth commandment forbiddeth whatsoever doth or may unjustly hinder our own or our neighbour’ s wealth or outward estate.

The ninth commandment is, Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.

The ninth commandment requireth the maintaining and promoting of truth between man and man, and of our own and our neighbour’ s good name, especially in witness-bearing.

These are the things that ye shall do; Speak ye every man the truth to his neighbour; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates: Zechariah 8:16

The ninth commandment forbiddeth whatsoever is prejudicial to truth, or injurious to our own or our neighbour’ s good name.

Thou shalt not go up and down as a talebearer among thy people: neither shalt thou stand against the blood of thy neighbour: I am the LORD. Leviticus 19:16

The tenth commandment is, Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’ s house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour’ s wife, nor his man-servant, nor his maid-servant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour’ s.

The tenth commandment requireth full contentment with our own condition, with a right and charitable frame of spirit toward our neighbour, and all that is his.

Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. Hebrews 13:5

The tenth commandment forbiddeth all discontentment with our own estate, envying or grieving at the good of our neighbour, and all inordinate motions and affections to any thing that is his.

Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another. Galatians 5:26
